A Day in the Life

I've been back at work for about a month now - back to my real job, one that does not involve koopoppeting. Not that Koo & Poppet isn't real or fulfilling or time-consuming, but it was just time for me to return to the professional world. I must admit, it feels good to wear nice clothes everyday and actually do my hair, as so much of this last year was spent in sweats and sloppy pony tails. It also feels good to show up for work on a regular schedule, put my education and background to good use, and earn an income again. But I have hired someone to help with the Koo & Poppet production, so business moves forward as usual and on task!
This of course means that my REAL real job as Sadie's mommy has taken a time cut by 30 hours per week. I have one day off during the work week to spend with her, and I appreciate our home time together that much more because of this new schedule we are transitioning into. We stay close to home, run fewer errands and take naps together. We eat cheerios and walk down the lane to the mailbox at a pace of her choosing. We try on shoes. We hide in closets and read books over and over and over. I breathe in her smell and realize she is growing further and further from her babyhood everyday.
Our day comes but once a week, and I don't take one second of it for granted.

That is a pretty great set up for a busy working mum. It can be SO hard transitioning back to work life after maternity leave.
A day off in the week to spend with your darling daughter sounds really nice. I love your low key approach to your day!

She is about the cutest little pumpkin ever! I adore her smile!

I've been considering going back to work. The money would be nice, but I am having such a hard time thinking about not being home with my own little girl all of the time. She's very social and would probably love being in a day care, but my heart aches just thinking about it! How did you do it???

How lucky Sadie is to have a mom who knows what really counts! It sounds like the best of both worlds (with of course its inevitable ups and downs). And what wonderful pics. It gives us a real slice of life with Sadie.

Absolutely precious photos, Sarah. I know you cherish them now but when she grows up, these will become pricesless. It goes way too fast..and it's so good to hear of your work/home/business/motherhood balance. I wish you continued success with everything! Do not take time out of your Easter happenings for the post - definitely just enjoy and no worries at all. I'm off to cook and clean and host an Easter here myself..
hugs to you and hope Sadie finds lots of eggs today! : )

Thanks to all for your heartfelt comments!

ColeAndJosephine: It is very hard, but I hang on to the thought that hopefully in the not so distant future I will have another child and get to have the time off again! Sadie is really having fun at daycare though....apart from the huge goose-egg she grew on her forehead today!
After you get back into the routine of working again, it really isn't as impossible as it once seemed :)

Can you get any sweeter?? I just learned I'm expecting a little girl :)) After two boys and a boy heavy family, this is wonderful news.
Your pictures make me even more excited :)
It is hard - I'm still home after seven years. Good luck to you & your little one in transitioning. It sounds like you follow your feelings :)

Congratulations Jamaise!
sounds like you have the best of both worlds. I would love to have another girl, but I definetly want a little boy in my life as well!
